Turmeric Extract (Curcuma longa, curcumin CAS 458-37-7), min. 95% curcuminoids, supplied wholesale by Zyntex. Natural yellow food colorant (E100) and standardized extract for nutritional products and cosmetics. CoA and SDS.
Turmeric extract is obtained from the rhizome of Curcuma longa. The 95% grade is a bright orange-yellow crystalline powder consisting of three curcuminoids: curcumin, demethoxycurcumin and bisdemethoxycurcumin. These compounds are practically insoluble in water and dissolve in ethanol and oils.
Food producers use curcumin as a natural yellow colorant under E number E100 in dairy products, confectionery, sauces and beverages. Producers of nutritional products use the extract in capsules and tablets, often in formulations designed to improve dispersion and absorption; regulations in each market govern the claims allowed. Cosmetic formulators use it in skin care and as a colorant.
Curcuminoids fade in strong light and alkaline conditions, so formulations are protected accordingly. Related plant-based ingredients include Ginger Extract, Grape Seed Extract and Capsicum extract.
