Capsicum Extract (capsicum oleoresin, CAS 8023-77-6), 1–10% capsaicinoids, supplied wholesale by Zyntex. Pungent chili extract for food flavoring, warming creams and plasters, and animal repellents. CoA and SDS with every lot.
Capsicum extract comes from solvent extraction of hot chili peppers (Capsicum species). It is a viscous, dark red liquid that contains capsaicinoids, color pigments and flavor compounds. Grades remain standardized by capsaicinoid content, typically 1–10%, or by pungency in Scoville heat units (SHU).
Food producers use it to add consistent heat to sauces, snacks, meat products and seasonings, because it is more uniform and hygienic than ground chili. Pharmaceutical and cosmetic producers also use it in warming creams, plasters and balms. It also appears in animal repellents. For the pure compound, see Capsaicin, and the oleoresin also appears as it.
Note that paprika oleoresin, made from mild peppers, finds use mainly as a color, while capsicum extract finds use for pungency. Other spice extracts in our range also include Ginger Extract and Turmeric Extract.
