Evening Primrose Oil Product Overview
Evening primrose oil is pressed from the seeds of Oenothera biennis. It is a pale yellow, clear oil containing about 70–75% linoleic acid and 9–10% gamma-linolenic acid (GLA, CAS 506-26-3), an omega-6 fatty acid that is rare in common vegetable oils.
In addition, producers of nutritional products use it in softgel capsules, where regulations in each market govern the claims allowed. Cosmetic formulators also value it in creams, lotions and serums for dry and sensitive skin, and in hair care. For a higher GLA content, Borage Oil is the main alternative.
Because of its high content of polyunsaturated fatty acids, the oil oxidizes easily and usually remains stabilized with tocopherols such as DL-alpha-Tocopherol. Other specialty oils in our range also include Almond oil and Fish oil.
