Potassium Ferrocyanide Product Overview
Potassium ferrocyanide (K4[Fe(CN)6]·3H2O) forms lemon-yellow crystals that dissolve in water. Its cyanide groups are tightly bound to iron, so it has low toxicity; however, strong acids or heat can release hydrogen cyanide.
In addition, salt producers use tiny amounts as an anticaking agent (E536), within the limits set by food regulations. Similarly, winemakers in some countries use it under strict control to remove excess iron and copper (blue fining), and pigment producers use it to make Prussian blue. It also serves in metal surface treatment and as a laboratory reagent.
