Ferulic Acid Product Overview
Ferulic acid (C10H10O4), also called trans-4-hydroxy-3-methoxycinnamic acid, belongs to the same hydroxycinnamic acid family as Cinnamic Acid. It is a white to light yellow crystalline powder that dissolves well in ethanol and warm water but only slightly in cold water. The commercial grade is commonly obtained from rice bran.
In cosmetics, it is used as an antioxidant ingredient. It is frequently combined with vitamin C and vitamin E in serums, where it helps stabilize these sensitive ingredients in the formulation. Because it is sensitive to light and high pH, formulators usually work with it in acidic, light-protected systems.
