Europium Oxide Product Overview
Europium(III) oxide (Eu2O3) is a white to light pink powder that is insoluble in water and dissolves in acids. Europium ions emit very sharp light: trivalent europium gives red emission, whereas divalent europium gives blue.
Phosphor producers use high-purity europium oxide as the activator in red phosphors such as europium-doped Yttrium (III) oxide, and in blue and green phosphors for LEDs, displays and lighting. Similarly, security printers use europium compounds in luminescent anti-counterfeiting features, including on euro banknotes. Nuclear engineers also use europium as a neutron absorber.
