Description
Copovidone (vinylpyrrolidone–vinyl acetate copolymer, CAS 25086-89-9) is a binder and film former used in tablets, hot-melt extrusion, coatings, hair styling and adhesives. Zyntex is a wholesale supplier and distributor of USP/NF and EP-grade Copovidone (VA64 type), with a CoA as well as an SDS for every lot.

Copovidone Product Overview

Copovidone is a white to yellowish-white powder made of about 60% vinylpyrrolidone and 40% vinyl acetate. Compared with Povidone (PVP K30), it is less hygroscopic and more plastic, which makes it an excellent dry binder.

In addition, pharmaceutical companies use it as a binder in direct compression and granulation, as a film former in coatings, and especially as the polymer carrier in hot-melt extruded and spray-dried amorphous solid dispersions that improve the solubility of poorly soluble APIs. Similarly, cosmetic producers use it in hair styling products, and technical users use it in adhesives and coatings.

Notably, related excipients in our range include Crospovidone, Croscarmellose Sodium and Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC).

Frequently Asked Questions

How does copovidone differ from povidone?

It is less hygroscopic and more plastic, which suits dry binding and hot-melt extrusion.

Why is it used in solid dispersions?

Because it keeps poorly soluble APIs in an amorphous form that dissolves faster.

How can I get a price and documents?

We supply flexible quantities, from small orders to large volumes, so you do not need to meet the high minimum orders of large producers. Please contact us with your required volume, and we will send a quotation together with the CoA and SDS.
