HPMC (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, hypromellose, CAS 9004-65-3) in pharmaceutical, food and construction grades, supplied wholesale by Zyntex. For tablet coatings, controlled-release matrices, vegetarian capsules and tile adhesives. CoA and SDS.
HPMC is a white to off-white, odorless powder that dissolves in cold water to form clear, viscous solutions and forms a gel on heating. Grades differ in viscosity (from about 3 to 200,000 mPa·s) and in methoxy and hydroxypropyl content, which pharmacopoeias describe as substitution types such as 2910 and 2208.
In addition, pharmaceutical companies use low-viscosity HPMC for tablet film coatings and binders, high-viscosity grades for hydrophilic matrix tablets with controlled release, and special grades for vegetarian hard capsules. Similarly, construction chemical producers use it in tile adhesives, renders, gypsum plasters and self-leveling compounds, where it retains water and improves workability. Food producers use it as a thickener and stabilizer (E464), and personal care producers use it in shampoos and eye drops.
Because viscosity and substitution type decide performance, please specify your application and grade. Related excipients in our range include Microcrystalline Cellulose (MCC), Sodium Starch Glycolate and Sodium CMC.
Typical uses include, for example:
💊 Tablet Coatings
Film-forming polymer.
⏱️ Controlled Release
Matrix former for sustained-release tablets.
🧱 Construction
Water retention in tile adhesives and plasters.
🌱 Vegetarian Capsules
Capsule shell material.

⚠️ Safety & Handling: Not classified as hazardous under GHS; fine dust may form explosive mixtures with air. Avoid dust formation and ignition sources. Store in tightly closed bags in a dry place. Always consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS), because it contains the full classification and handling instructions.
Which grade is used for controlled-release tablets?
High-viscosity grades such as type 2208 (K-type), which form a gel layer that slows drug release.
Why is HPMC added to tile adhesives?
It retains water in the mortar, improves workability and extends open time.
How can I get a price and documents?
We supply flexible quantities, from small orders to large volumes, so you do not need to meet the high minimum orders of large producers. Please contact us with your required volume, and we will send a quotation together with the CoA and SDS.
