Trisodium Phosphate Product Overview
Trisodium phosphate (Na3PO4) is a white, odorless crystalline or granular product that dissolves easily in water and gives a strongly alkaline solution with a pH of about 11.5–12.5 at 1%. It also comes as the anhydrous form and as the dodecahydrate (CAS 10101-89-0).
Cleaning product producers and painters use TSP to degrease surfaces before painting and to remove heavy soiling, although phosphate restrictions apply to household detergents in the EU. Similarly, water treatment companies use it to prevent scale and corrosion in boilers, and metal finishers use it in alkaline cleaners and phosphating pretreatments. Food-grade TSP (E339) serves as an acidity regulator and emulsifying salt.
