Food-grade Disodium Phosphate (DSP, CAS 7558-79-4, E339(ii)), ≥98.0%, supplied wholesale by Zyntex. Emulsifying salt for processed cheese, buffer for food and pharma, and component of laboratory buffers. CoA and SDS.
Disodium phosphate (Na2HPO4) is a white, hygroscopic powder or granule that dissolves well in water and gives a mildly alkaline solution. Producers make it by neutralizing Phosphoric acid with sodium hydroxide or soda ash. It is also available in hydrated forms. In food, it carries the E number E339(ii).
In processed cheese and cheese sauces, it works as an emulsifying salt that keeps fat and protein together and gives a smooth melt. It also stabilizes evaporated milk and cream, regulates acidity in beverages and instant products, and improves texture in meat products alongside Sodium Tripolyphosphate.
Pharmaceutical companies use it as a buffering agent, and laboratories use it in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) and other buffers. It also appears in water treatment and detergent formulations. For citrate-based buffers and emulsifying salts, see Sodium Citrate.

⚠️ Safety & Handling: Not classified as hazardous under GHS, although dust may irritate the eyes. Store in tightly closed bags in a dry place, as the anhydrous form absorbs moisture and may cake. Always consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for full classification and handling instructions.
Why is disodium phosphate used in processed cheese?
It acts as an emulsifying salt: it binds calcium, which allows the cheese proteins to keep fat and water together and produces a smooth, meltable product.
Do you supply hydrated forms?
This product is the anhydrous form. Dihydrate, heptahydrate and dodecahydrate can be quoted on request.
How can I get a price and documents?
Prices depend on quantity, packaging and destination. Contact us with your required volume to receive a quotation together with the CoA and SDS.
