Sodium Tripolyphosphate (STPP, CAS 7758-29-4, E451(i)), min. 94% with min. 57% P2O5, supplied wholesale by Zyntex. For industrial cleaners, ceramics, food moisture retention and water treatment. CoA and SDS with every lot.
Sodium tripolyphosphate (Na5P3O10) is a white powder or fine granule that dissolves well in water. It binds calcium and magnesium ions, which softens water, and it disperses solid particles in liquids. Food producers know it as E451(i).
For decades, STPP was the main builder in laundry and dishwasher detergents. The EU has since restricted phosphates in consumer laundry and dishwasher detergents, but STPP remains common in industrial and institutional cleaners and in many markets outside the EU. Ceramic tile and porcelain producers also use it as a deflocculant, because it lowers the viscosity of clay slips.
In food processing, STPP helps meat, poultry and seafood retain moisture and keeps texture consistent. Other uses include water treatment, leather tanning and paper. For related phosphate products, see Disodium Phosphate Food Grade and Phosphoric acid.
