Potassium chloride (KCl) is a white crystalline powder that dissolves easily in water and tastes salty with a slightly bitter note. Pharmacopoeia grades contain 99.0–100.5% KCl with tightly limited impurities.
In addition, pharmaceutical companies use it in infusion and dialysis solutions, oral rehydration salts and extended-release tablets for potassium replacement. Similarly, food producers use it as a salt substitute (E508) in reduced-sodium products, and laboratories use saturated KCl solutions in reference electrodes and pH meters.
