Copper(I) Iodide Product Overview
Copper(I) iodide (CuI) is a white powder when pure; traces of oxidation give it a tan or off-white color. It is practically insoluble in water but dissolves in solutions of iodide or ammonia.
Organic chemists use it as a catalyst or co-catalyst in many important reactions, including the Sonogashira coupling of alkynes, Ullmann- and Goldberg-type C–N and C–O couplings, and click chemistry. Polymer producers combine it with potassium iodide as a heat stabilizer for polyamide 6 and 66, especially in automotive under-the-hood parts.
