Copper(II) Acetate Monohydrate (CAS 6046-93-1), 98–99%, supplied wholesale by Zyntex. Catalyst and oxidant for Chan-Lam and alkyne couplings, copper source for catalysts, and mordant for textiles. CoA and SDS with every lot.
Copper(II) acetate monohydrate (Cu(CH3COO)2·H2O) forms dark green to blue-green crystals. It dissolves in water and alcohol and, unlike many copper salts, also in some organic solvents, which makes it convenient in synthesis.
Organic chemists use it as a catalyst or oxidant in several important reactions, including Chan-Lam coupling to form carbon-nitrogen and carbon-oxygen bonds and the Eglinton coupling of terminal alkynes. It also serves as a copper source for preparing other copper catalysts and materials.
Other uses include mordanting and dyeing in textiles, ceramic glazes and pigments, and electroplating. Historically, a related basic copper acetate was the green pigment verdigris. For other copper salts, see Copper Sulfate, Copper(II) chloride 2-hydrate and Copper (II) Nitrate.
