Aluminium Chlorohydrate Product Overview
Aluminium chlorohydrate (Al2(OH)5Cl·xH2O) is the most basic member of the polyaluminium chloride family. It is available as a clear liquid with about 23–24% Al2O3 or as a white powder with about 46–48%, and its basicity of about 75–83% means that it consumes very little alkalinity during treatment.
Water treatment plants use ACH as a coagulant for drinking water, wastewater and industrial process water, because it works well at low doses, over a wide pH range and in cold water. Compared with Aluminum Sulfate and standard Poly Aluminium Chloride, it also produces less sludge and adds fewer salts. Similarly, paper mills use it for retention and pitch control.
Furthermore, in personal care, cosmetic-grade ACH is the standard active ingredient in antiperspirant sticks, roll-ons and sprays. For iron-based coagulants, see Ferric Chloride.
