Sulfaguanidine Product Overview
Sulfaguanidine (C7H10N4O2S) is a white to yellowish-white crystalline powder that is sparingly soluble in water and soluble in dilute acids. It is often supplied as the monohydrate.
Unlike most sulfonamides, it is only poorly absorbed from the gut, so it stays mainly in the intestine. Veterinary producers therefore use it in oral powders, boluses and suspensions for enteric infections in calves, pigs and poultry. In some markets, it is still used in human antidiarrheal combinations.
