Sulfadimidine Product Overview
Sulfadimidine (C12H14N4O2S), known as sulfamethazine in the United States, is a white or yellowish-white crystalline powder that is very slightly soluble in water. For water-soluble products, producers convert it into the sodium salt.
Veterinary producers use it in oral powders, drinking water solutions, boluses and injectables for cattle, pigs, sheep and poultry, often combined with Trimethoprim. It is also used against coccidiosis in poultry, sometimes alongside Amprolium Hydrochloride. Maximum residue limits in food from treated animals must be respected, which is why withdrawal periods are part of every product authorization.
