Litsea Cubeba Oil Product Overview
Producers obtain litsea cubeba oil by steam distillation of the small, pepper-like fruits of the Litsea cubeba tree, which grows mainly in southern China. The oil is a pale yellow liquid with a fresh, intensely lemony and slightly fruity odor. Its main component is citral (a mixture of geranial and neral), usually 70–80%.
Flavor houses use it to build natural lemon and citrus notes in beverages, confectionery and bakery. Perfumers use it in fresh citrus and green compositions and in household products such as soaps, detergents and air fresheners. Aromatherapy and natural cosmetics brands also use it.
