Benzyl Acetate Product Overview
Benzyl acetate (C9H10O2) is a colorless liquid with a fresh floral, fruity odor reminiscent of jasmine and pear. It is slightly soluble in water and miscible with alcohols and most organic solvents. Chemically, it is the ester of Benzyl Alcohol and acetic acid, and it is listed as a flavoring substance under FEMA number 2135.
In perfumery, it is one of the most widely used materials for building white-flower accords such as jasmine, gardenia, ylang-ylang and tuberose. Its good diffusion and low cost make it common in soaps, detergents, air care and other functional fragrances, where it often works together with Benzyl Benzoate and other benzyl esters.
In flavors, it contributes fruity notes to apple, pear, apricot and strawberry profiles at low levels.
