Lithium Chromate Product Overview
Lithium chromate (Li2CrO4) is a yellow crystalline powder or granulate that is very soluble in water. It melts at about 844°C and is a strong oxidizer.
Its main use is as a corrosion inhibitor in lithium bromide absorption chillers and heat pumps, where small amounts protect steel and copper components from the corrosive Lithium bromide solution. It has also been used in some battery and pyrotechnic applications and as an oxidizing agent. Many industries are replacing chromate inhibitors with alternatives such as Lithium molybdate.
Hexavalent chromium compounds are carcinogenic and subject to strict controls under EU REACH and similar regulations elsewhere.
