Chromium(III) Sulfate Hydrate Product Overview
Chromium(III) sulfate hydrate (Cr2(SO4)3·xH2O) forms green to dark violet crystals that dissolve in water; the anhydrous form has CAS 10101-53-8. Trivalent chromium compounds like this are much less toxic than hexavalent compounds such as Chromic Acid.
The leather industry is the largest user: basic chromium sulfate tans most of the world’s leather, giving it softness, strength and heat resistance. Metal finishers use trivalent chromium sulfate baths as a safer alternative to hexavalent chromium for decorative chrome plating. It also serves as a mordant in textile dyeing and as a raw material for green chromium pigments and catalysts.
