Chromium Picolinate Product Overview
Chromium picolinate (Cr(C6H4NO2)3) is a red to purplish-red fine crystalline powder that is slightly soluble in water. It contains trivalent chromium bound to three picolinic acid ligands; chromium(III) is a trace element, unlike toxic hexavalent chromium.
In addition, producers of nutritional products use it in microgram amounts in tablets, capsules and multivitamin premixes, within the regulations of each market. Because the amounts are so small, producers usually prepare dilute pre-mixes for uniform distribution. Similarly, feed producers use it in premixes for pigs, poultry and cattle where authorized.
