Carbomer Product Overview

Carbomers are white, fluffy, acidic powders of high-molecular-weight, cross-linked polyacrylic acid. When dispersed in water and neutralized with a base such as triethanolamine or sodium hydroxide, they swell into clear, stable gels at very low concentrations, typically 0.2–1%.

In addition, cosmetic producers use them in clear gels, creams, lotions and hair gels, and hand sanitizer producers use them to thicken Ethanol and Isopropyl Alcohol gels. Similarly, pharmaceutical companies use them in topical gels, eye gels and controlled-release tablets. Grades differ in viscosity, clarity and ease of dispersion.

Notably, related thickeners in our range include Hydroxyethyl Cellulose, Xanthan Gum and Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC).
