Lanthanum(III) Fluoride (LaF3, CAS 13709-38-1), 99.9–99.999%, supplied wholesale by Zyntex. Rare earth fluoride for fluoride ion-selective electrodes, optical coatings, fluoride glasses and scintillators. CoA and SDS.
Lanthanum(III) fluoride (LaF3) is a white powder or crystalline material that is insoluble in water and melts at about 1,493°C. It also conducts fluoride ions, which explains one of its best-known uses.
In addition, instrument producers use europium-doped LaF3 crystals as the sensing membrane in fluoride ion-selective electrodes. Similarly, optical coating producers use it as a low-refractive evaporation material, glass producers use it in fluoride glasses for infrared fibers, and detector researchers use cerium-doped LaF3 as a scintillator.
Furthermore, related rare earth materials in our range include Lanthanum Oxide, Neodymium (III) Fluoride and Cerium(III) fluoride.
Typical uses include, for example:
🔬 Ion-Selective Electrodes
Membrane for fluoride electrodes.
🌈 Optical Coatings
Low-index evaporation material.
💡 Fluoride Glasses
Component of infrared fibers.
⚛️ Scintillators
Host for cerium-doped detectors.

⚠️ Safety & Handling: May be harmful if swallowed or inhaled and may irritate the eyes; contact with strong acids releases hydrogen fluoride. Avoid dust formation and also wear dust protection and eye protection. Store in tightly closed containers in a dry place. Always consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS), because it contains the full classification and handling instructions.
Why is lanthanum fluoride used in fluoride electrodes?
Because LaF3 conducts fluoride ions selectively, a doped LaF3 crystal works as the sensing membrane.
Which purities do you supply?
99.9% to 99.999% on a rare earth oxide basis.
How can I get a price and documents?
Prices depend on quantity, packaging and destination, so please contact us with your required volume. We then send a quotation together with the CoA and SDS.
