Description
Lanthanum Oxide (La2O3, CAS 1312-81-8) is a rare earth oxide used in high-index optical glass, refinery catalysts, ceramics and phosphors. Zyntex is a wholesale supplier and distributor of Lanthanum Oxide in 3N to 5N purities, with a CoA and SDS for every lot.

Lanthanum Oxide Product Overview

Lanthanum oxide (La2O3) is a white powder that dissolves in acids but not in water. It absorbs moisture and carbon dioxide from the air, gradually forming lanthanum hydroxide and carbonate, so it must be stored in tightly closed containers.

Optical glass producers add it to make glasses with a high refractive index and low dispersion, which are used in camera, microscope and smartphone lenses. Refineries rely on lanthanum to stabilize the zeolites in fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalysts. It also goes into ceramics, piezoelectric and dielectric materials, phosphors and the production of lanthanum metal for hydrogen storage alloys.

For lanthanum salts used in solution chemistry, see Lanthanum(III) nitrate hexahydrate. Related rare earth oxides include Cerium Oxide, Gadolinium Oxide and Dysprosium Oxide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does lanthanum oxide gain weight during storage?

It absorbs water and carbon dioxide from the air and slowly converts to hydroxide and carbonate. Keep containers tightly closed, and calcine before use if needed.

Which purities do you supply?

Purities from 99.9% to 99.999% on a rare earth oxide basis are available. Please state your requirement.

How can I get a price and documents?

Prices depend on quantity, packaging and destination. Contact us with your required volume to receive a quotation together with the CoA and SDS.
