Description
Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia (YSZ) (YSZ, CAS 114168-16-0) is a tough, high-performance ceramic powder used in dental crowns, solid oxide fuel cells, thermal barrier coatings, oxygen sensors and grinding media. Zyntex is a wholesale supplier and distributor of YSZ powders with 3, 5 and 8 mol% yttria, with a CoA as well as an SDS for every lot.

Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia Product Overview

Yttria-stabilized zirconia is Zirconium Dioxide doped with Yttrium(III) Oxide, typically 3 mol% (3Y) for maximum toughness or 8 mol% (8Y) for maximum ionic conductivity. The yttria stabilizes the tetragonal or cubic crystal structure, which prevents cracking on heating and cooling.

In addition, dental laboratories and producers use 3Y and translucent 4–5Y grades for crowns, bridges and implants, and ceramic producers use 3Y for grinding media, knives and precision parts. Similarly, fuel cell and sensor producers use 8Y as the oxygen-conducting electrolyte in solid oxide fuel cells and lambda sensors, and plasma spray users use YSZ in thermal barrier coatings for turbine blades.

Notably, particle size, surface area and binder content define grades. Related materials in our range include Hafnium Oxide and High-Purity Alumina.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between 3Y and 8Y?

3Y gives the highest toughness for structural and dental parts; 8Y gives the highest ionic conductivity for fuel cells and sensors.

Do you supply ready-to-press granules?

Yes. Spray-dried granulated powders with binder can be quoted.

How can I get a price and documents?

We supply flexible quantities, from small orders to large volumes, so you do not need to meet the high minimum orders of large producers. Please contact us with your required volume, and we will send a quotation together with the CoA and SDS.
