Description
Sodium Metabisulfite (SMBS, E223, CAS 7681-57-4) is a preservative, antioxidant and reducing agent used in food and wine, water treatment, mining, pharmaceuticals, photography and textiles. Zyntex is a wholesale supplier and distributor of food and technical-grade Sodium Metabisulfite with min. 97% purity, with a CoA as well as an SDS for every lot.

Sodium Metabisulfite Product Overview

Sodium metabisulfite (Na2S2O5) is a white crystalline powder with a sulfur dioxide odor that dissolves easily in water, forming sodium bisulfite. It releases sulfur dioxide in acidic conditions.

In addition, food and beverage producers use it (E223) to preserve wine, dried fruit, shrimp and juices and to prevent browning, within the limits set by food regulations. Similarly, water treatment users use it to remove chlorine before reverse osmosis membranes, mining companies use it in gold processing and flotation, pharmaceutical companies use it as an antioxidant in injections, and textile and leather processors use it as a reducing agent.

Notably, related sulfur compounds in our range include Ammonium Bisulfite and Sodium Bromide.
