Monopotassium Phosphite Product Overview
Monopotassium phosphite (KH2PO3) is a white crystalline powder or granule that dissolves completely in water and gives a slightly acidic solution. Producers make it by neutralizing Phosphorous Acid with a potassium base such as Potassium Carbonate.
Plants absorb phosphite quickly through leaves and roots and move it in both directions within the plant. Formulators therefore use potassium phosphites in foliar sprays and fertigation products, where they act as a potassium source and as a biostimulant that supports plant defense. In the EU and other regions, potassium phosphonates are also approved plant protection active substances against oomycete diseases such as downy mildew and Phytophthora.
It is important to note that phosphite is not a substitute for phosphate as a phosphorus nutrient, because plants cannot convert it efficiently.
