Lithium Iodide Product Overview
Lithium iodide (LiI) is a white crystalline powder that is very hygroscopic and turns yellow in air and light as iodine forms. It also dissolves very easily in water, alcohols and acetone, and it is available in anhydrous and hydrated forms.
In addition, battery producers use it as the solid electrolyte formed in lithium–iodine cells, the long-life batteries used in cardiac pacemakers. Similarly, solar cell researchers use it in iodide/triiodide electrolytes for dye-sensitized cells, and chemists use it to cleave esters and ethers and as an iodide source in synthesis.
