L-Tyrosine Product Overview
L-Tyrosine (C9H11NO3) is a white crystalline powder with very low water solubility of only about 0.45 g/L at room temperature. In the body, it is the precursor of Levodopa and further of dopamine and other catecholamines.
Its low solubility is a challenge in cell culture media and infusions, where formulators often dissolve it at high or low pH or use more soluble dipeptide forms. Biotech producers nevertheless rely on it as an essential component of media for antibody production. Food producers use it in fortified foods where permitted.
