Horsetail Extract Product Overview
Horsetail extract is made from the aerial parts of field horsetail, Equisetum arvense, a plant that accumulates unusually high amounts of silica. The extract is a brownish-yellow to light brown fine powder standardized to 7–10% silica, and also contains flavonoids and phenolic acids.
Cosmetic formulators use horsetail extract in hair, nail and skin care products. Producers of nutritional products use it as a plant-based silica source in tablets and capsules, often together with Vitamin H (Biotin) and Collagen peptide; regulations in each market govern the claims allowed. It is also used in traditional herbal preparations.
