Glycine Product Overview
Glycine (C2H5NO2) is a white crystalline powder that dissolves easily in water and has a mildly sweet taste. It is the simplest amino acid and has no chiral center. The commercial grade is produced mainly by chemical synthesis.
Food producers use it as a flavor enhancer and sweetness modifier (E640) and to mask bitterness. Pharmaceutical companies use pharmacopoeia-grade glycine as a buffer and excipient in injectables, lyophilized products and infusion solutions. Feed producers use it in poultry diets, and cosmetic formulators use it in skin care. In chemistry, it is a key raw material for the herbicide glyphosate and for metal glycinate chelates, such as Copper Chelates (Mixture).
