DL-Methionine Product Overview
DL-Methionine (C5H11NO2S) is a white crystalline powder or flake. It is a racemic mixture of D- and L-methionine; animals convert the D form into the L form, so both halves are nutritionally useful.
Feed producers use it because methionine is usually the first limiting amino acid in poultry diets based on corn and soybean meal; adding it supports feather and muscle growth while reducing protein levels. Similarly, aquaculture and pig feed producers use it, and pet food producers use it in some diets. Pharmaceutical companies also use it in certain formulations.
