Description
Colloidal Silicon Dioxide (colloidal anhydrous silica, fumed silica, E551, CAS 7631-86-9) is a very fine, light silica used as a glidant, anti-caking agent and thickener in pharmaceuticals, food, cosmetics and coatings. Zyntex is a wholesale supplier and distributor of USP/EP and food-grade Colloidal Silicon Dioxide, with a CoA as well as an SDS for every lot.

Colloidal Silicon Dioxide Product Overview

Colloidal silicon dioxide (SiO2) is an extremely light, fluffy, bluish-white amorphous powder with a very large surface area, typically 175–225 m²/g for pharmaceutical grades. Because its particles are so small, tiny amounts strongly improve the flow of powders.

In addition, pharmaceutical companies add it at about 0.1–1% as a glidant in tablet and capsule blends, and as a moisture adsorbent. Similarly, food producers use it (E551) as an anti-caking agent in salt, spices and powdered products, cosmetic formulators use it as a thickener and mattifying agent, and coating and adhesive producers use it to control rheology.

Notably, hydrophilic grades suit most uses, whereas hydrophobic grades serve special technical applications. Related excipients in our range include Magnesium Stearate, Talc and Microcrystalline Cellulose (MCC).

Frequently Asked Questions

How much colloidal silica is used in tablets?

Typically 0.1–1% as a glidant.

Is it crystalline silica?

No. It is amorphous silica, which is a different material from crystalline quartz.

How can I get a price and documents?

We supply flexible quantities, from small orders to large volumes, so you do not need to meet the high minimum orders of large producers. Please contact us with your required volume, and we will send a quotation together with the CoA and SDS.
