Cocamidopropyl Betaine Product Overview
Cocamidopropyl betaine is a clear to pale yellow aqueous solution with about 30–35% active matter and a pH of about 4.5–7. Producers make it from coconut fatty acids, dimethylaminopropylamine and sodium chloroacetate, so the molecule carries both positive and negative charges.
Personal care producers use CAPB as a secondary surfactant together with anionic surfactants such as Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate, because it boosts foam, increases viscosity and reduces the irritation of the overall formula. Similarly, it appears in baby shampoos, facial cleansers, liquid hand soaps and household dishwashing liquids.
