Cobalt(II) Oxide Product Overview
Cobalt(II) oxide (CoO) is an olive-green to black powder that is insoluble in water but dissolves in acids. Commercial grades often contain some Co3O4 and have a cobalt content of about 72–73%.
In addition, ceramic and glass producers use cobalt oxide to create the intense cobalt blue color in glazes, porcelain decoration and glass; very small amounts are enough. In vitreous enamel, it promotes adhesion of the ground coat to steel. It also serves as a raw material for cobalt pigments, catalysts and, after conversion, for cathode materials such as lithium cobalt oxide.
