Cobalt(II) Nitrate Hexahydrate (CAS 10141-05-6), 19.5–20.2% Co, supplied wholesale by Zyntex for professional use. Soluble cobalt source for Fischer–Tropsch catalysts, battery precursors, pigments and cobalt chemicals. CoA and SDS.
Cobalt(II) nitrate hexahydrate (Co(NO3)2·6H2O) forms red monoclinic crystals that dissolve very easily in water and alcohols. It also contains about 19.5–20.2% cobalt and melts in its own water of crystallization at about 55°C.
Catalyst producers use it to impregnate supports for cobalt-based Fischer–Tropsch and hydrogenation catalysts, because the nitrate decomposes cleanly to cobalt oxide on calcination. Similarly, battery material researchers use it as a soluble cobalt source for cathode precursors, while ceramic and pigment producers use it for blue colors. Other cobalt salts in our range also include Cobalt Sulfate and Cobalt (II) acetate 4-hydrate.
Because cobalt compounds count in the EU as carcinogenic and toxic for reproduction, and the nitrate is also an oxidizer, Zyntex therefore supplies it only for professional industrial use. For nickel analogues, see Nickel(II) nitrate 6-hydrate.
Typical uses include, for example:
⚗️ Catalysts
Cobalt source for Fischer–Tropsch as well as hydrogenation catalysts.
🔋 Battery Research
Soluble cobalt source for cathode precursors.
🎨 Pigments and Ceramics
Raw material for cobalt blue colors.
🧪 Cobalt Chemicals
Starting material for other cobalt compounds.

⚠️ Safety & Handling: Oxidizing solid that may intensify fire; may cause cancer by inhalation, genetic defects and damage to fertility or the unborn child; may cause allergic skin and respiratory reactions; very toxic to aquatic life. For professional use only, so keep away from combustible materials and also wear respiratory protection, gloves and protective clothing. Store locked in a cool, dry place. Always consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS), because it contains the full classification and handling instructions.
Why is cobalt nitrate preferred for catalyst preparation?
Because it dissolves easily and decomposes cleanly to cobalt oxide during calcination, it leaves no sulfate or chloride residues on the catalyst.
Who can purchase cobalt nitrate?
Only professional industrial users, because cobalt compounds count as carcinogenic and toxic for reproduction.
How can I get a price and documents?
Prices depend on quantity, packaging and destination, so please contact us with your required volume. We then send a quotation together with the CoA and SDS.
