Calcium D-saccharate tetrahydrate (C6H8CaO8·4H2O) is a white, odorless crystalline powder that is practically insoluble in water, whereas it dissolves in dilute mineral acids and in calcium gluconate solutions. The anhydrous salt has CAS 5793-88-4.
Pharmaceutical companies use it as a stabilizer in Calcium gluconate injections, because it keeps the supersaturated calcium gluconate solution from crystallizing. Similarly, producers of nutritional products use it as calcium D-glucarate in tablets and capsules, under the regulations of each market.
