Alpha Arbutin Product Overview

Alpha arbutin (C12H16O7) is a white crystalline powder that dissolves easily in water. It is a glucoside of hydroquinone made by enzymatic synthesis, and it is more stable and more effective than the natural beta form.

In addition, cosmetic formulators use it at about 0.2–2% in brightening serums, creams and masks, often together with Nicotinamide (Vitamin B3), Tranexamic Acid and vitamin C derivatives such as Ascorbyl Palmitate. Because it dissolves in water, it suits clear serums and gels.

Notably, formulations should avoid high heat and very low pH, which can release hydroquinone; cosmetic regulations in some markets limit its concentration. Related brightening ingredients in our range include Kojic Acid.
