Description
Lithium Nitrate (CAS 7790-69-4) is a lithium salt used in molten salt heat storage, red pyrotechnics, lithium–sulfur battery electrolytes and ceramics. Zyntex is a wholesale supplier and distributor of technical-grade Lithium Nitrate, with a CoA as well as an SDS for every lot.

Lithium Nitrate Product Overview

Lithium nitrate (LiNO3) is a white, hygroscopic crystalline powder that dissolves very easily in water and melts at about 255°C. It is an oxidizer.

Solar thermal and heat storage researchers add it to nitrate salt mixtures with Potassium Nitrate and sodium nitrate, because it lowers the melting point and widens the working range. Similarly, pyrotechnics producers use it for red flame colors, and battery researchers use it as an electrolyte additive in lithium–sulfur cells, where it protects the lithium anode. Ceramic producers also use it as a lithium source.

Furthermore, other lithium compounds in our range include Lithium hydroxide, Lithium chloride and Lithium carbonate.

Key Applications of Lithium Nitrate

Typical uses include, for example:

☀️ Heat Storage

Component of molten nitrate salt mixtures.

🎆 Pyrotechnics

Red flame colorant.

🔋 Battery Research

Electrolyte additive in lithium–sulfur cells.

🏺 Ceramics

Lithium source for glazes.

⚠️ Safety & Handling: Oxidizing solid that may intensify fire; harmful if swallowed and causes serious eye irritation. Keep away from combustible materials and also wear gloves and eye protection. Store in tightly closed containers in a dry place, because it absorbs moisture. Always consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS), because it contains the full classification and handling instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is lithium nitrate added to molten salt mixtures?

Because it lowers the melting point of nitrate salt mixtures, the heat storage system can operate over a wider temperature range.

Why is lithium nitrate used in lithium–sulfur batteries?

It forms a protective layer on the lithium anode, which reduces side reactions with dissolved sulfur species.

How can I get a price and documents?

Prices depend on quantity, packaging and destination, so please contact us with your required volume. We then send a quotation together with the CoA and SDS.
