Phenylephrine Hydrochloride Product Overview
Phenylephrine hydrochloride (C9H13NO2·HCl) is a white or almost white crystalline powder that is freely soluble in water and alcohol. It is the (R)-enantiomer and melts at about 143–145°C.
Pharmaceutical companies use it in nasal sprays and drops as a decongestant, in eye drops to dilate the pupil, often with Tropicamide, and in injections that raise blood pressure during anesthesia. It is also found in oral cold remedies, although regulators in the United States have reviewed the effectiveness of oral phenylephrine as a decongestant.
