Cefradine is a white to off-white crystalline powder that is sparingly soluble in water. It is described in the USP, BP and EP, where the assay is calculated on the anhydrous basis.
Pharmaceutical companies use it in capsules and powders for oral suspension, and, mixed with a suitable base such as arginine or sodium carbonate, in powders for injection. It is closely related to cefalexin and to Cefadroxil; for injectable first-generation therapy, Cefazoline sodium is the more common choice in many markets.
