Cadmium Oxide Product Overview
Cadmium oxide (CdO) is a brown to red amorphous or crystalline powder that is insoluble in water but dissolves in acids. It is the starting material for most other cadmium compounds.
Its remaining uses are specialized: cadmium electroplating for some aerospace and defense components, electrodes for nickel-cadmium batteries where still permitted, catalysts, special glasses and research on transparent conducting oxides. In the EU, cadmium is restricted under REACH Annex XVII and in electronics under RoHS, and many former uses have been phased out.
