Description
Titanium Carbide (TiC, CAS 12070-08-5) is an extremely hard ceramic powder used in cutting tools, cermets, wear-resistant coatings and abrasives. Zyntex is a wholesale supplier and distributor of Titanium Carbide powder, with a CoA and SDS for every lot.

Titanium Carbide Product Overview

Titanium carbide (TiC) is a gray powder with a cubic crystal structure, a hardness of about 9–9.5 on the Mohs scale and a melting point of about 3160°C. It is lighter than Tungsten Carbide and highly resistant to wear and chemical attack.

Hardmetal producers add it to tungsten carbide-cobalt grades for machining steel, because it reduces crater wear at high cutting temperatures. Combined with nickel or molybdenum binders, it forms cermets for finishing tools and wear parts. Coating producers deposit thin TiC layers by CVD on tools and components.

It also serves as an abrasive and polishing material and as a reinforcement in metal matrix composites. For related hard materials, see Vanadium Carbide, Silicon Carbide and Titanium dioxide as the titanium oxide counterpart.

Always consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for full classification and handling instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is titanium carbide added to tungsten carbide?

In steel machining, it reduces diffusion and crater wear at high temperatures, which extends tool life.

Which particle sizes do you supply?

Submicron and micron grades are available. Please specify particle size and carbon content when requesting a quote.

How can I get a price and documents?

Prices depend on quantity, packaging and destination. Contact us with your required volume to receive a quotation together with the CoA and SDS.
